PTTP on BBC1!
Preaching To The Perverted finally made it to terrestrial TV
in the UK, seven years after the BBC dropped the script after
developing it, for the reason that it would never be capable
of being shown on UK TV. Ironic, then, that it ended up on BBC1!

US censor trims scenes - six years on!
In order to avoid the restrictive NC 17 certificate, the US distributor
of the DVD and video has been obliged to edit three scenes to achieve
an "R" for its forthcoming release.
These scenes, which include the famous relaxicisor sequence of (mild)
electric shocks applied between Guinevere Turner's legs and the
severing of the prosthetic penis (and fluorescent pink "blood")
by performance artist Tutu, are NOW available in the version sold
on this site and will soon be made available in the US in a special
unrated version by the distributor."

Festival of New Cinema, Split, Croatia
The film and director Stuart Urban were invited to participate in the
festival in the beautiful coastal resort of Split, in a selection of
cutting edge films, October 1999. We thank the British Council for their
financial support. The film was very well received by critics and audiences.

Mediawave Festival, Gyor, Hungary.
The film participated to sell-out shows and standing ovations at this
avant garde festival in May, 1999.

Best actress prize.
The Young People's Jury at the March 1999 Festival Du Jeune Comedien
in Beziers, France, awarded first prize to Guin Turner as Tanya Cheex.
This competition for young actors is fast becoming a key spotlight for
new talent. The film played to sell-out capacity and much applause,
and director Stuart Urban also drew praise from jury members for his
cinematic style and technique.

Japan buys Preaching!
The film will receive a cinema release in Japan this Summer 1999.

IRISH CENSOR BANS BOTH FILM AND TRAILER.
The Irish Censor's Office issued an outright ban on the film in cinemas
and on video, even causing several thousand copies of "Donnie Brasco"
to be recalled because they contained the trailer for "Preaching to
the Perverted". ("So much for free speech in Europe!")

UK VIDEO RENTAL FROM 8 DECEMBER 1998.

"At the Hamptons Film Festival, New York October
1997 a priest in a dog collar with poor eyesight misread the poster
and, thinking it was about preaching, amiably wandered into the cinema
clutching his ticket. A cinema attendant, noticing his dog collar, asked
him if he was aware what the film was about. When it became clear what
the movie was going to be about, he quickly withdrew. Shame, it might
have enlightened him !

All three screenings at the Montreal World Film
Festival were sold out and met with laughter and applause. Similarly
the 1997 Hamptons International Film Festival in New York gave the film
a warm welcome resulting in it being acquired for US distribution. Other
festivals were Sitges and Gijon in Spain (at the latter event it was
described as one of the "Standout" films by "Variety" magazine, and
screening 17 and 18 Octobter, plus outings in Spain (Sitges and Gijon
festivals) and Sao Paulo in Brazil 1997, Mardi Gras in Sydney 1998.

"LAUNCH OF SOUNDTRACK IN LONDON'S PICCADILLY
CAUSES CHEEKS TO BLUSH!"

On 21 July pedestrian and vehicle traffic was
brought to a halt when Tower Records allowed fetish performers
to put on a show in their large window display devoted to the
film and soundtrack. The police at first joined in with the
cheering spectators but the flood of complaints caused by reddening
backsides etc caused them intervene. Tower Records claims that
hundreds of complaints were received about the TV projecting
naughty images from the 18 certificate film to passers-by -
which is why they removed it! |

INTERNATIONAL NEWS 25 JULY
In Singapore the censor issued a banning notice on the
film because (a certain "A.JOHN" writes on the banning order) 'it
glorifies perverted sex, including lesbianism, sadism and bondage.

SPECTACULAR WEST END PREMIERE CAUSES POLICE
TO QUIVER.
A perverted World Premiere was attended by stars of
the film who arrived in a fetish motorcade of limos and Morgan sports
cars in London's West End. The event was sold out and we apologise
for scuffles on the door due to disgruntled but desperate citizens
and perhaps even the undercover agents of the Club Squad who (it is
more than rumoured) infiltrated the screening at the Prince Charles
Cinema and later party at Heaven Club - just like Peter in the movie!
There was a great stage show by Lucifire and the event was organised
by Tutu (see Pervs Parade for
biogs). Police got hot under their leather collars at the intensity
of the Heaven action but we do not think charges will be pressed.
See the movie to discover why such actions fail. Wonder what guest
Emily Lloyd saw ????"

The UK's Bravo
channel transmited "Pervert's Progress", the documentary about
the fetish scene and the making of "Preaching To The Perverted"
on Friday 4th July. At 8 pm on the same channel, the cinema programme
featured a special on the film.

Gaytime TV, BBC2's popular gay magazine programme
featured clips form the film and an interview with Guinevere Turner
on Wednesday July 2nd.

Eurotrash filmed a special report on the film
and transmitted it on Channel 4 on the 20th of June. It featured a report
from New York on Guinevere Turner's training as a dominatrix.
